Le Marche

Le Marche is known as the hidden jewel of Central Italy. It lies between the Sibillini Mountains and the Adriatic coast with a gently rolling landscape of hills with a medieval town on almost every hilltop.

On a clear day the hills unfold towards snow capped mountains or the cerulean blue of the Adriatic, on misty days the landscape changes constantly as different towns appear through the mist.

The lifestyle here has been relatively unchanged by modern development, there is still small scale farming, with olive groves, vineyards, and most of the fresh produce grown locally.

Culturally the area is rich, the churches are filled with Renaissance paintings and there are several trails which people follow seeking out individual paintings of great beauty hidden in churches in tiny towns. There is also a lively programme of music all year round.

Macerata, just fifteen minutes from the course venue, has a theatre and open air amphitheatre.

Casa Azzurra

Casa Azzurra is a boutique hotel with a multi-ethnic style. There are only nine rooms, each one with its own unique individual style. It is an oasis of calm and tranquillity set in amongst the hills of Le Marche, close to the medieval village Loro Piceno, just fifteen minutes from Macerata, the provincial capital.

Its restaurant, “Seta Cruda”, whose name explains the large mulberry trees outside many farmhouses, food for the silk worms who produced “Crude Silk”, is dedicated to organic food produced using local ingredients, fish from the nearby Adriatic and home grown vegetables and fruit. There is a health spa, a swimming pool and guests can benefit from massages and yoga lessons.

Abbadia di Fiastra

The Fiastra Abbey where the courses are held is a Cistercian abbey with extensive grounds, still with a working church and monastery but also offering conference facilities and a modern hotel, with two bars and two restaurants. The courses will be held in one of the rooms within in the monastery and participants can go for walks in the grounds during the breaks and after lunch.
